Green Tea

Green tea contains lots of healthy benefits.And my everyday starts with green tea and it keeps me so active throughout the day.It contains antioxidant and it can also aid in weight loss by improving your metabolism, which in turn allows your body to burn fat faster.

Ingredients:

Green tea leaves- 1 tsp
water- 1 cup
Honey

Preparation:

1. Heat cup of water.And add 1 tsp of green tea and brew it for 2 min.Dont boil it too longer then tea will taste bitter.

2.Then strain it using strainer and add honey to your taste.

3.Have a healthy green tea with lite biscuit.

Palak Poriyal

Ingredients:

Palak - 1 bunch
onion-1 big
Red chilli -3 small
Mustard Seed- 1/2 tsp
Urad dal- 1/2 tsp
grated coconut-optional
salt
oil-2 tsp

1. Wash the palak and keep it aside.chop the onion finely.

2.Take kadai add oil and add mustard seed ,urad dal and red chilli after it burst it out
   add the onion saute it well till it turn into goldern brown color.(add salt to onion for speeden up the process)

3.Then add palak dont add water immediatly because palak will leave more water.If nessesary we can springle some water at last.

4.After it cooked well add little salt because we added salt before itself while saute the onion.

5.If needed you can add grated coconut at this time and switch off the flame.

6.You can take this as poriyal also or you can mix with rice and eat.

Simple Dal

Simple Dal,yeah its very simple to make but its taste wont be simple its sounds great.
And this is my family's favourite side dish for roti.So today we will learn how to make
simple dal.

Ingredients:

Toor dal-1/4 cup
Spilt moong dal-1/4 cup
Onion-2
Tomato-2
Green chilli-2
cumin seed-1 ts
Salt as needed

Seasoning:

musturd seed-1/2 ts
coriander leaves
curry leaves

Spicy Powder:

Turmeric powder- pinch
coriander powder-1 ts
cumin powder-1 ts
chilli powder-2 ts
garam masala-1 ts

1. Soak both the dal for 10 to 15 mins then pressure cook with needed water.

2. Heat a 2 tsp of oil add cumin seed,onion,chilli and saute till it become brown color.Add salt for speed your process.

3. Then add tomato and all spice powders and add cooked dal,salt and 1 1/2 cups of water and simmer for few min.

4.Then heat a oil separatly and add the ingredients for seasoning and add that in dal.

5.Now simple dal ready.you can serve this as side dish for roti.

Tomato Soup

This is very simple and easy to prepare and also a very common soup. Instead buying readymade soup from shop we can prepare this using simple ingredients from the home itself.

Ingredients:

Big juicy tomatoes -3
Onion -1 medium chopped
Garlic - 3 cloves chopped
Pepper powder-1 ts
 salt to taste
Butter- 2 tsp
All purpose flour/maida - 3/4 tsp

1. Heat butter in a pan and fry garlic and onions.

2. Add chopped tomatoes, 1 cup of water, salt and pressure cook for 2 
     whistle.

3. After it cools, puree it in a blender.Strain the blended mixture in a soup 
     strainer to remove seeds and  skin.

4. Melt a little butter in a pan, add maida to it and cook for a few seconds on 
     low flame. Keep stirring. Maida is added to thicken the soup.But i added 
    corn flour here.

5. Now add the blended mixture little by little to the above while constantly 
     stirring the maida. (This is done to prevent formation of lumps)

6. Reheat the soup, check for salt.And add needed pepper powder.

7.Serve hot and enjoy the homemade soup.

Beans Poriyal (or) Beans stir fry

Beans contain very low fat and protien which is very healthy.And this poriyal is very simple and healthy.


Ingredients:

Beans - 250 g
Onion - 1 big
Green chilli - 2
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Skin removed Green gram -1 ts
Salt - as per your taste
Oil

For Seasoning:

Mustard - 1/2 ts
Broken urad dal - 1/2 ts
Curry leaves - little(optional)

Preparation:

1.String the beans(french beans),wash and cut it into small pieces.

2.Heat a tsp of oil and add the ingredients for seasoning. 

3.Add the onion and green chilli and saute well till onion turn brown color.

4.Then add beans,turmeric powder,skin removed green dal and needed salt.

5.Add little water and cook covered till soft.Stir 2 to 3 times in between,so that everything gets evenly cooked.you can sprinkle water if needed in between while stirring.Remove from flame and serve hot with rice.

Horsegram Thuvayal (or) Kollu thuvayal

Horse gram is rich in B-complex vitamins and protein. It is quite delicious to taste and at the same time highly nutritious.It is also a excellent food for those who are looking to loose some weight.So here i have given you how to cook horse gram(kollu) thuvayal.It goes well with oats and you can also take as side dish for rice.

Ingredients:

Horse gram - 1/2 cup
Garlic - 3 cloves
Tamarind - Large peanut sized ball
Grated coconut - 3 ts
red chill - 3
Hing - a pinch
Salt - according to your taste
oil -1 ts

Preparation:

1. Clean the horse gram and saute in a pan without oil.

2. Heat 1ts of oil and saute hing,red chill,Garlic and keep it aside.

3. Then in the remaining oil saute the tamarind.

4. Grind everything together along with salt and water to a coarse paste.Do not add too much of water. It should be thick paste.

5. Serve with hot rice.

Carrot Pan Cake

Today i tried pan cake using carrot.I used carrot because it contains rich beta carotene which is a powerful antioxidant and helps us maintaining a healthy skin.So i mixed carrot juice with cake mixture.You can also use beetroot juice..Which gives attractive color to cake.

Ingredients:

Nutritious Flour/all purpose Flour- 4 ts
carrot-  1
Egg- 1
Milk - half glass
Sugar - according to Your taste
Baking soda- a pinch
Butter - 3 ts

Preparation:

1. Grate the carrot and grind it in mixer as a fine paste and keep it aside.Dont strain it.

2.Take a bowl and add all purpose flour.i used here nutritious flour and add baking soda and egg and beat it well.

3.Now add Carrot juice and mix with blender.

4.Add Sugar according to your taste.

5.Now add milk.(note: batter should be in semi liquid mixture)

6.Atlast add 1 ts butter in it n blend it well.

7.Then take a pan and grease with butter and add cake batter and close with glass lid untill a bubble form in a batter.

8.When it becomes a goldern color, flip it over to other side and let it get cooked.

9.Take it from pan and cut it into a equal portion and apply some honey or chocolate sauce in between two cake.

10.Since i made chocolate sauce in home i added some fried nuts in that so i ignored adding nuts in batter..

11.If you are serving with honey you can add fried nuts in batter.

12.serve with honey or chocolate sauce and enjoy a nutritious food..

Carrot Halwa

Carrot halwa is a traditional Indian dessert that uses the carrot in a unique way. This dish is basically composed of grated cooked carrots with some additional ingredients. A major dairy component also adds to the dish.Personally i love this halwa very much because it contain the rich orange color of carrots comes from beta carotene  which also happens to be very good for optical health. The yellow to orange pigment in beta carotene is converted by the body into vitamin A, making carrots an excellent source of this useful vitamin.Childrens too love this yummy halwa...

Ingredients:

carrot -1/4 
Milk-200 m
Sugar-150 g
Salt-a small pinch
Ghee-25 g
Cashew-6 no
cardamom-3 no

Preparation:


1)Finely grate or grind the well cleaned carrots.

2)Heat ghee in a tava (preferably a nonstick tava).

3)Add the grated carrots to it and saute well for 3 mins.

4)Add the milk and keep on stirring on a very low flame till the carrots get mixed well and well cooked(around 4 to 5 minutes).

5)Add the sugar and a pinch of salt and cardamom

 if needed.

6)Stir well for 3 - 4 mins.

7)You can see the halwa is cooked well and it gets separated from the ghee.

8)Now add the grated nuts and switch off the flame.

9)Transfer the content into a serving dish and allow it to cool.

:- Serve chilled.
